Manga During war

Political Aspect

In years leading up to World War I, Japan started to create comics, magazines, and manga based on war. They featured characters (and Japanese soldiers) from previous works with swords and guns in hand, as if they were going to break out in some huge fight.

Social Aspect

Mangaka (People who worked on manga) had to follow the government's guidelines for their content. Manga that appeared in this period included gentle, family-style humor making fun of the problems at the time. This is what the citizens who lived in the area would have to read.

Communal Aspect

When Japan had to go up against other countries, their manga included images of the 'enemy' demonized and the bravery was glorified on the battlefield in some scenes.

In these photos, Japan is portrayed as the cats and dogs, while on the other hand, China is represented as pigs. This made people think that China acted in a way to deserve that title during war.
