CorelDraw 8 Graphic design Practice

May Day Design

My school is having another event this upcoming month, and there will be floats at the event. The theme is 'movies', so our class went on ahead and chose Lilo and Stitch from Disney for the design. I've been put in charge of the background of the sophomore float, and I decided to create it by using CorelDRAW's brushes.

I decided to go with a typical Hawaiian look, with the palm tree, ocean, and birds off in the distance. I will be using this sketch as a rough draft and guide for my final design on the float.

During this class period, I spent everyday of one week cutting out shapes from construction paper to match what I have in the sketch. I even came after school to help get it done on each of these days with my class. We finally finished, and the result is to the left.

In the final design, our class decided not to add the island that the tree was perched on since we didn't have the right colored paper, but we did add other decorations; such as the tiki statue and fish. Also, on the stairs we decided on stapling paper flowers to make the stage pop out, and after all of that was finished, the float was ready to go.

Skill Test

With this page, I decided to put some of the things I've learned with CorelDRAW to the test.
